A Personal AI System is an AI system that is dedicated to and personalized for a single individual.

  • Context:
    • It can (typically) retain a memory of its individual across interactions, so that later help can draw on earlier interactions.
    • It can (typically) learn from prior interactions with its individual to become more helpful over time.
    • It can (typically) be personalized to its individual's preferences, context and goals rather than serving every user the same way.
    • …
    • It can (often) keep reusable skills or procedures for its individual alongside its memory.
    • It can (often) be hosted by a vendor as a personalized assistant service, or be built and held by its own user.
    • …
    • It can range from being a Narrow Personal AI System to being a Personal Superintelligence, depending on its AI system capability.
    • …
  • Example(s):
    • Personal AI systems by capability tier, such as:
    • Personal AI systems by who holds them, such as:
      • a vendor-hosted personalized assistant, such as the "truly personalized ChatGPT" that a team within OpenAI's Personal AGI organization describes as its vision.
      • a self-built system, in which an individual holds the persistent memory and reusable skills rather than relying on model access alone, such as an AGET agent fleet run for one person, which gives its agents persistent knowledge and shared memory across sessions.
    • …
  • Counter-Example(s):
    • A General-Purpose AI System considered on its own, which is defined by the breadth of tasks it performs rather than by being dedicated to an individual; one such system can serve many users the same way.
    • A narrow AI system that serves all of an organization's users the same way, such as a site-wide recommender system.
    • An enterprise AI platform, which serves an organization rather than one individual.
    • …
