An Affiliate Publisher is an ad-supported publisher that includes affiliate ads into their new media content.

The industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as ‘retailer’ or ‘brand’), the network, the publisher (also known as ‘the affiliate’) and the customer. The market has grown in complexity to warrant a secondary tier of players, including affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates and specialized third parties vendors.
The second player is the affiliate, who has an interest in promoting the merchant’s brand and product in order to earn a commission for those efforts. A business relationship exists between the merchant and the affiliate, where the merchant agrees to compensate the affiliate for his or her efforts, but only if the efforts bring the desired results (like new leads and new sales).
