- QUOTE: Latent learning experiment: An experiment by Tolman and Honzik (1930) in which animals were not rewarded during initial trials, and then were rewarded for correct responding in a second phase. After the first rewarded trial, the rats began responding efficiently, as if they had previously been learning without reward. Although the reward was not necessary for learning, it did appear necessary to motivate performance.
